We Care for Humanity and Sultanate of Maguindanao Mobilize Relief for Davao Earthquake Victims

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – October 20, 2025 – In a swift humanitarian response to the recent earthquake that affected the region, We Care for Humanity (WCH) and the Sultanate of Maguindanao, under the royal patronage of HRH Maha Putri (Queen) Mariam Leonor Torres Mastura and HM Sultan Zulkarnain Mastura Kudarat VI, have successfully conducted a large-scale relief-aid distribution in Davao City.

The mission, led on the ground by Queen Mariam, Founder of We Care for Humanity, provided essential necessities to hundreds of families in dire need. The distribution was held at Talomo Barangay Proper and served many of the most vulnerable, including some who traveled as far as six hours from Davao Oriental to receive assistance.

Upon landing in Davao, Torres immediately spearheaded the procurement of bulk supplies, including rice, noodles, canned goods, coffee, and other condiments. The operation's success was ensured by a massive volunteer effort, which saw the entire cache of goods sorted and packed in less than 24 hours. The team of volunteers, led by the Royal Ladies of Maguindanao, was so extensive that the fashion atelier of Bai Nurainie Datumanong Ampatuan was generously converted into a temporary packing headquarters to accommodate the scale of the operation.

"Seeing the resilience of these families is humbling. This was a monumental effort, only made possible by the incredible spirit of bayanihan," said HRH Queen Mariam. "I am in awe of our Davao team, who mobilized their entire families to shop, pack, and deliver this aid. My hands are sore from packing, but my heart is full knowing this will bring comfort to so many. We are profoundly grateful to them and to our sponsors, whose compassion made this mission possible."

The success of the mission was heavily reliant on the on-ground support from key local leaders and volunteers. WCH and the Sultanate extend their deepest gratitude to:

  • Sultanate of Maguindanao, Davao Region: Datu Joel Bustamante (Sultanate’s Secretary General), Sultan Racman Maug (Sultan and Council Elder), Datu Larry Cabagio (IPMR, Davao City), Rajamuda Buhari Camis (Muslim Affairs, Talomo), Datu Ali Sacar (Muslim Affairs, Talomo), Engr. Hadji Datu Esmael Maulana, Datu Ramil Ampatuan, Datu Muctabil Datumanong, Sultan Allan Manuel, Sultan Abdul Mawla Camamara and Sultan Abdul Baser Bago Bawami.

This relief operation was also funded by the generous contributions of sponsors from the United States: Bai Huong Vo and family, Bai Lola Smallen, Leah Halama, Helen Hong, Luz Tudla Prill, Sally Balecha, Jonathan White, Charm, Antony, Vince, and Jenny.
